Kurt Rupprecht

Kurt Rupprecht was abused at a parish in the Wilmington, Delaware diocese.

“The damage is done to us. It’s done. It’s never going away,.” he said. “Because those of us here have the strength — which is largely by the grace of our family and friends who have supported us and kept us going — we have the responsibility to protect the young, those who are still to come, and reach out to those out there who need some of this strength to make it through.”

But for now, said Rupprecht, he is celebrating the release of the Attorney General’s investigation report. “I am so relieved and happy for our brothers and sisters here in the Baltimore area,” he said. “It’s a big step in the journey, as it does continue. This is a great day.” He attended the AG’s meeting with survivors immediately before the release of the report. “The time today with Attorney General Brown was heartfelt and inspiring, and we’re just deeply grateful,” he said.

But for Mr. Rupprecht, the fight is not over. The Archdiocese of Wilmington is the villain in his story. The Archdiocese there sent their clergy pedophiles to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where Mr. Rupprecht lived. Rather than identify and stop the problem, that Archdiocese covered it up, as was the normal scheme within the church, both nationally and internationally.

Indeed, the Archdiocese of Wilmington is next.
